Lynn McKee is a familiar face in Clinton’s schools, where she is an active member of PTOs and a regular volunteer.
Today, she was named the Clinton district’s Parent of the Year for the 2013-14 school year. She was given the award in a surprise presentation at Eastside Elementary School.
“Mrs. McKee is one of the most giving parents I have ever had come through Eastside,” said Principal Cindy Hamil. “She is always willing to do whatever needs to be done and does it with such a sweet attitude and spirit. She knows how hard our teachers work and is always thinking of ways to treat them.”
This year, she organized several teacher activities that made Eastside teachers feel very appreciated, Hamil said. She also organized Back to School night and assisted with the PTO fundraiser at all levels.
“She has helped count money when Eastside was without a bookkeeper and has filled in many times when our secretary was out,” Hamil said. “Mrs. McKee is an ideal parent, supporting our school with a positive attitude and a willingness beyond what is expected.”
McKee has two children in the district, Connor, a fourth-grader, and Tyler, a first-grader. She is Parent of the Year this year at Eastside, and is a previous Parent of the Year at Northside Elementary and Clinton Park Elementary.
McKee was chosen from among the Parents of the Year at each school. School winners include:
• Clinton Park Elementary School, Annie Villejoin
• Northside Elementary School, Paula Brown
• Lovett Elementary School, Lynda Collins
• Clinton Junior High School, Elizabeth Thornton
• Sumner Hill Junior High School, DeAnna Dillard
• Clinton High School, Sharron Stevens
The 2011-12 Parent of the Year, Karen Bedells, went on to be named the Mississippi Parent of the Year.
“Clinton is blessed to have a high level of parent involvement in our schools, and it’s parents like Mrs. McKee and Mrs. Bedells who make our district one of the very best in the state,” said Phil Burchfield, superintendent of schools.
McKee will go on to represent Clinton in the state Parent of the Year program sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Education.
